Confident. Creative. Compassionate.

Our new teaching model revitalizes your kids' education.

On August 28, 2010, over 50 Akron Area YMCA staff were trained and certified in MindUP™ — an innovative, scientific and inclusive curriculum for children in kindergarten through seventh grade.

MindUP uses neuroscience to engage children in new ways and complements the Y’s current teaching model. Already used by over 1,000 educators throughout the United States and Canada, it is scientifically proven to boost awareness, increase optimism, encourage different viewpoints and build wellness in children. Studies have shown that children in the program learn more efficiently, display more enthusiasm, develop high levels of confidence and feel more compassion and joy. The program also decreases behavioral problems and aggression.

Akron Area YMCA is grateful to The Hawn Foundation for their effort in strengthening our educational programs and services and helping us in our mission of nurturing youth potential. The Hawn Foundation is a California-based charity dedicated to helping children in school and in life through social and emotional learning.

The Akron Area YMCA is the largest provider of child care in the community with seven full-time Early Care and Education Centers and more than 30 before and after school sites. Our state-licensed staff supports our mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all and instill the YMCA character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into all children. We nurture potential through youth development, improve well-being through healthy living and give back through social responsibility.
