Reintroducing the Y

Dear Akron Area YMCA Friends,

I bring you exciting news about our Y! For the first time in 43 years, the national Y movement is unveiling a new branding strategy. It is the result of more than two years of analysis and was designed to help us tell the Y’s story and reach more people across our great nation.

We are not changing our mission nor are we changing what we do. So, what are we doing? We’re defining our cause: strengthening the foundations of community. Every day, we work side by side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We are hopeful that this new strategy will help us better communicate how we bring our Christian mission to life every day.

In short, the Y is changing how we talk about ourselves so that people better understand the benefits of engaging with us. We are also celebrating our new voice with a new look that reflects the vibrancy, diversity and heritage of our organization.

A refreshed logo retains the triangle that symbolizes spirit, mind and body – the foundational elements of the Y. It also includes "YMCA" to create a strong connection between our name and visual identity. Our name – Akron Area YMCA – will remain the same; the YMCA will now be known as the Y.

For 140 years, the Akron Area YMCA has strengthened the foundations of our community by nurturing the potential of youth and teens, improving the nation's health and well being and providing support to our neighbors.

As you can see, the Y isn’t changing any of the great programs and services that we've always provided. We're just trying to do a better job of explaining why they matter. Spread the word. Let’s build even stronger communities and make history together!
