The YMCA-Voris Community Learning Center provides a place for children to go after school and take part in academic assistance, mentoring, enrichment programs and recreation. The facility offers diversified programming, sports and open times for teen clubs, community events, concerts, art classes and business meetings. The YMCA-Voris CLC strives to provide the best programs and services to meet a wide array of community needs. To ensure the center is providing support for children, teens, adults and families, the YMCA is conducting surveys with local residents and businesses. Start up funding comes from The GAR Foundation.

Chess Seminar

Saturdays – 10AM-5PM

FREE  

 

The Akron Chess Club will be hosted at YMCA-Voris CLC every Saturday from 10am - 5pm. The Akron Chess Club will host an open house with an instructional clinic for participants wanting to learn or improve their game.

Stop in any time during the day. Open to the public.  

Players of all ages and levels are welcome.

 

 

 

 

 

Open Gym

Saturdays 11:00AM-4PM

Members: $5   Program Members: $5 Youth: $5

 

Come in and enjoy a few hours of open gym, offered through the YMCA-Voris Community Learning Center Bring a few of your buddies and have a fun 3 on 3 tournaments.

Pickle Ball                          

Wednesdays 6PM-9PM
at Hines Park on Brown Street from May-September

Indoors at Voris from October-April or times of high precipitation FREE

 

Pickleball is a sport that is a cross between tennis, ping pong and badminton.  Played by 4 people-2 players per team.  The equipment for this game consists of a paddle similar to a ping pong paddle and a plastic Wiffle ball and played over a net.  This sport is a great activity for both men and women.  It is low impact sport that improves your flexibility and mobility.  It also gives you the ability to make friends and compete against each other in friendly matches. 

 

 

 

 

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

 

Hmong Association

Saturdays 10AM-12PM

The Hmong Ohio Mutual Association Inc. (HOMAI) in partnership with the Akron YMCA is offering free Hmong language and tradition classes at Voris CLC. This is free and opened to the public. Seating is limited. The language class is for anyone interested in learning the Hmong language regardless of age.

Financial and Economic Financial Enrichment

Tuesdays: 6PM-7PM

FREE 

 

These series of workshops, sponsored by Working In Progress (WIP) are designed to educate youth (14-18) on financial & economic literacy. The program focus is understanding credit reports, check books, savings and checking accounts, setting financial goals, paying for college and cars, making informed choices about renting and home buying, how to pay bills and where to pay them, etc.). Free and open to the public.

South Akron Mentoring

South Akron Mentoring is a Faith based mentorship program specifically focused on character building for children grades K-4. It is free and open to the public and any faith.  It uses recreation and relationships with successful adults to produce balanced lifestyles.  Fun games, crafts, prizes and snacks!  So kids get your permission form completed and come on out Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7PM-8PM.

What is the Y-

Maiden program? 

 

The Squawnina Nation Indian Maidens is a YMCA organization for girls between the ages of 5-15, and their mothers. The program is designed to build and foster good lifetime relationships between mother and daughters.

YMCA Indian Maidens Program has been creating family memories in Firestone Park for over 40 years! This is a great way to build a meaningful relationship with your daughters, while helping them embrace the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Plus, you’ll have lots of fun together while also meeting other families!

 

Fun with other kids; families are organized into tribes made up of several moms and daughters. Each tribe meets once a month. The meetings consist of games, crafts, storytelling, songs and refreshments. Our program also meets in a larger group, as a nation, once a month and has events for the entire family. Some of our activities include; Field trips * Sports * Camp-Outs * Story Telling * Games * Plays * Community Service Projects

Looking for the opportunity to spend quality time with your daughter? 

 

This year-round program offers activities that mothers and daughters can experience together enjoying quality time going on field trips, working on community service projects, camping out, playing

Y-Maidens is a parent-child program for mothers with daughter(s) ages 5-15.  We meet twice a month year-a-round, and plan fun activities to do together! Come and see what we are all about!

 Teen Leaders Club

YMCA Teen Leaders Club is a program that brings teens together to develop group leadership skills, as well as allowing individuals to grow by building a healthy spirit, mind and body. Teens will meet on a monthly basis, in addition to other activities and/or volunteer opportunities. 

 

Teen Leaders Club is an opportunity for teens to learn about leadership, get involved with the community and have fun with peers.

 

Essentially, the club is what the group makes of it. Under the supervision of YMCA staff and volunteers, teens can make Leaders Club exactly what they want it to be!  Teen Leaders Club is for anyone, ages 13-18, looking to have fun, learn and serve the community.
