The Barberton Community Foundation was created in 1996 and was funded from the proceeds of the sale of Barberton Citizens Hospital. The Foundation is a tax-exempt, non-profit public charity that serves as a supporting organization to the City of Barberton, the Barberton City Schools, the Barberton Health District as well as nonprofit organizations serving the citizens of Barberton.

Since Barberton’s founding in 1891 it serves an innovative community in industry and technology. Barberton nurtures its innovative spirit through financial assistance and public-private partnerships such as Barberton Community Development Corporation, The Southern Summit County Community Improvement Corporation and The Barberton Planning Department. Tax Increment Financing and Enterprise Zone Areas provide incentives for businesses that increase employment opportunities for the Barberton community of more than 27,000 residents.
