Aquatic Center 

The Aquatic Center has a 25-yard, 8-lane lap pool for lap swimmers, swim lessons, Aqua Aerobics Classes, Lifeguarding Classes, Wadsworth YMCA Swim Team and the Wadsworth High School Swim Team. 

The Family Rec Pool has a zero-depth entry with a drop slide [must be 48" tall], kiddie slide, family fun, play stations and a Vortex. This pool is a family recreation pool and used for our Parent/Child and Preschool swim lessons.

The warm-water therapy pool [owned by Summa Health] is for special programs only. 

No inflatables or face masks that cover the nose are allowed in YMCA pools due to safety issue. YMCA provides life jackets and puddle-jumpers as needed.

Group Swim lessons

Please check back for updates to classes based on new Health Department guidelines. We are hoping to resume lessons in July.

The YMCA Swim Lessons curriculum is a skills-based approach designed to meet the needs of the Y and the people we serve. The Y offers a variety of levels of swim lessons for all ages, from 6 months through adults. Lessons are available for Home School Children and Teen/Adult programs.

1. Swim Starters

[Parent/Child]: Ages 6 months-4 years. This water enrichment program involves the parent in the water with the child as they learn to get comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences.

A/Water Discovery [formerly Shrimps] - introduces infants and toddlers to aquatic environment; taught in an enjoyable atmosphere of songs, games and play.

B/Water Exploration [formerly Pre-Pike] - focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubble and fundamental safety and aquatic skills. 

2. Swim Basics for Preschool

[Preschool: 3-5 years]

Learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: swim, float, swim- sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide and exit- and jump, push, turn, grab.

1/Water Acclimation - Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.

2/Water Movement- Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. 

3/Water Stamina - Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. 

4/Stroke Development - Introduces basic stroke technique in front and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. 

3. Swim basics & swim Strokes for school age

[School age: 6-12 years]

1/Water Acclimation - Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills.

2/Water Movement - Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently..

3/Water Stamina - Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. 

4/Stroke Development - Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading and elementary backstroke.

5/Stroke Development - Introduces breast stroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and side stroke.

6/Stroke Mechanics - Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Classes are held once a week for a 7 week session. Summer sessions vary.

Private Swim Lessons 

Private Swim Lessons are for those children that need additional support or have special needs. Children must be 5 years or older. We offer lessons by appointment only, to children and adults. Lessons are typically scheduled around the YMCA group lesson schedule. Participants pay for 5-pack of half hour lessons.  Lessons are paid at the time of registration.  If more than one child is taking lessons, must be within the same family.  

Cost for Private Lessons:

  • One [1] swimmer: Member/$110; Program Member/$150
  • Two [2] swimmers: Member/$145; Program Member/$175

Fall/Winter Swim Team 2020-2021

The Wadsworth YMCA is home to the WAVES Swim Team for ages 5 -18 years. Meets are held October through February. All swimmers must be a YMCA member throughout the entire Fall/Winter league. 

Summer Swim Team 2020

Long Course and Short Course registration is currently on hold - please check back for updates.

Summer swim clinics for those wishing to train for endurance and receive instructions on starts, strokes and turns will be announced shortly.

Winter Swim Team 2020-2021   

New to the Team, or just want to see if your child is ready?  Swim Placement Night will be held prior to registration in the fall.

Registration will be open as long as lane space is available. An informational packet will be available at the Wadsworth YMCA front desk in August.

Water Exercise classes

Water Exercise classes are not currently offered due to the Ohio Stay at Home order.  Please check back for details at a later time.

The YMCA offers a variety of water exercise classes from Arthritis Classes, to Aqua Aerobics to Older Adult Exercise. These programs are offered 2 or 3 times a week for 7 weeks.

Certification Classes

Interested in getting a Lifeguarding Certification? American Red Cross classes are offered throughout the year.  Please email Kathy if you would like to be notified when class times are determined.  Price is $175 Y Members/ $190 Program Members.
