The Y welcomes all who wish to participate and provides help to those who qualify for financial assistance. Through our Annual Campaign, the Akron Area YMCA provides more than 3,000 families membership and program opportunities to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all!

We know that everyone is different and unique. The Y respects the privacy of it's members and will work with anyone on an individual basis to make their Y experience positive.

Committed To Our Community

Determining scholarship amounts is handled by each Y branch in a fair and consistent manner. Every Y member receives the same membership benefits, regardless of whether they are receiving a scholarship. Y members can feel confident knowing that they are a part of an organization that cares greatly for the well-being of all people, and is committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.


How to Apply for Financial Assistance

To apply for a membership, simply complete the application form. Then provide the requested information regarding income and family size to your Y branch so they can process the information in a fair and consistent manner.

Required Documents 

A short letter explaining your circumstance.

A proof of your residency.

Plus... one of these documents to apply for membership:

1. 1040 Federal Tax Form(s) for all incomes in household.
2. Documents showing most recent 30 days of income.

3. OWF (Ohio Works First) card

4. TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) card

5. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) card 

All subsidy applications and personal documents are kept confidential
