SUPER SENIOR SERIES FRIENDLY COMPETITION 

If you're at least 55 years young and a MEMBER of our Akron Area YMCA, it's time to REGISTER your participation in the Free SUPER SENIOR SERIES. We're taking all the momentum from last year's premier event and modifying it to fit with this year's social/health guidelines -- keeping it safe and FUN.

There is no cost for this event. However, you do need to register ahead of time. Come compete for bragging rights, food, (socially-distanced) camaraderie, and t-shirts!!

EVENTS

The day will consist of several events you can register for. You can find descriptions for each event below! If you have any questions, you can reach out to Ali Ziegler at aliZ@akronymca.org.

1 MILE RUN/WALK (VIRTUAL)

Participants: This event is open to any male or female participant. There is no minimum or maximum participation per branch.

Rules: Participants will time themselves at home completing a 1 mile walk or run. They will need to submit a photo showing with the distance and time (via a smart watch, phone, stopwatch) to be considered for a win. The best thing about this being a virtual event is that you can do it anywhere--visit a local metro park, go walking around your neighborhood with a friend, or stop in to your local branch and use a treadmill! 

1 MILE RUN/WALK RELAY

Participants: This event is open to a maximum of 3 four-person teams per branch.

Rules: Participants will compete at Lake Anna. Each member of the relay will walk half a lap (a quarter mile total). Teams must consist of 2 MEN AND 2 WOMEN on the relay.

100 YARD SWIM

Participants: This event is open to any male or female participant. There is no minimum or maximum participation limits per branch.

Rules: In the water start. Participants will be timed in a 100 yard swim. Lowest time wins!

100 YARD SWIM RELAY

Participants: This event is open to a maximum of 3 four-Person Teams per branch.

Rules: Each of the four participants will be required to swim 25 yards in the pool. Each relay team must consist of 1 female participant. In water start--no diving, please. Once swimmer begins, next swimmer will be permitted to stand in pool and take off upon prior swimmer’s arrival. Each team will share a lane (following the swimming COVID protocol set by the Y) Lowest time wins!

CORN HOLE

Participants: This event is open to a maximum of 6 two-person teams per branch.

Rules: STANDARD CORN HOLE RULES. Boards will be 27 feet apart. First to reach (or exceed) 21 wins (per ACA rules). We will be using rally scoring. Brackets will be filled in as teams check in.

FREE THROW CONTEST

Participants: This event will be open to any male or female. Participation is unlimited per branch.

Rules: Male Participants will use standard size basketball (29.5). Female Participants will use standard women’s size basketball (28.5). Best of ten shots made will advance in the double elimination format. Male Winner and Female Winner to be awarded. Shooter must stay behind the line until the ball is released. Participants are encouraged to bring their OWN basketballs!

GROUP DANCE COMPETITION

Participants: No team can have more than 10 total participants:  Branches can enter several teams, if necessary.

Rules: A panel of judges will evaluate each team based on song selection, technical difficulty, choreography, and creativity. The song is required to be under 5 minutes. Everyone must maintain 6 feet social distancing at all times, including during formations.

PICKLEBALL - MIXED DOUBLES

Participants: This event is open to a maximum of 1 two-person team per branch. Branches will host pre-tournaments to be completed by October 2nd to determine the one team that will be representing their branch at the main event. Please check in with your home branch for more information!

Rules: Teams must consist of one male and one female. The winning team must get to a score of 11 and win by a minimum of 2 points. We will be following a double elimination format. Line judges will be used for medal round games. All general pickleball rules apply.

PUSH UPS

Participants: This event will be open to any male or female. Participation is unlimited per branch.

Rules: Participants will compete in how many push-ups they can perform in one minute. A judge will determine if they push-up counts based on depth and form. Regular form required.

TRIVIAL PURSUIT CONTEST

Participants: This event is open to two teams of 4 participants per branch.

Rules: Participants will compete in trivia contest using provided trivia game questions. Teams will compete head to head for 10 questions. Each team will be given the same questions and will write the answer on a dry erase board to show the host. The team with the most correct answers will be advance to next round. Tie breakers will be decided by sudden death format. Double Elimination format will be followed. Trivia Games will be provided to participating branches a minimum of 90 days in advance. Social distancing at all times is required.
