GENERAL INFORMATION & POLICIES
AM I A MEMBER OR A PROGRAM MEMBER?
As a member of the Akron Area YMCA, you have access to all Akron Area YMCA locations. Members also benefit through priority registration for programs, reduced program fees, Child Watch (Family or Youth membership required) and access to YMCA of Central Stark County locations. As a member, you will receive a yearly benefit coupon with over $150 in savings on camps, fitness programs, Early Care & Education, Before and After School Enrichment and a variety of other programs.
A program member is a past, present or future participant without a Y membership who chooses to participate in one or more classes or individual sessions only. Any program member enrolled in a current session who purchases a Y membership will
receive 50% OFF the Start-Up fee* when they join. This offer is valid up to 90 days after the end of your enrolled session.

Child Watch (6 weeks–10 years)
Child Watch allows parents to participate in programs and work out up to two hours per day while children are engaged in various age-appropriate activities in a supervised environment. Child Watch is free for those with a Family or Youth membership. Adult memberships may purchase a monthly Child Watch pass for children under 3 years of age for a nominal fee. Please check with your branch for time and details.
Members ages 13–15 who have completed the Teen Wellness skill assessment may use the fitness/wellness centers without parental accompaniment, but must wear a Y-issued wristband or show a membership card designating Teen Wellness status. Proof of age and identification must be carried at all times by youth while in the Y fitness/wellness centers.
Members ages 10–12 who have passed the Youth Wellness skill assessment may be permitted to use the fitness/wellness centers when accompanied by an adult who has completed the program as well. Youth Wellness participants will only be permitted in fitness/wellness centers where the Youth Wellness program is offered.
Children under 10 years of age are not permitted in fitness/
Children 10 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Group Exercise Classes
Members ages 13–15 may attend fitness classes if accompanied by an adult. Members 16 years and older may attend on their own.
Children ages 9+ are permitted in the gymnasium during open gym time. Parent or responsible adult must be inside the facility at all times.
Children age 4 and over are not permitted in opposite sex locker rooms but are encouraged to use the family changing rooms. Adults not required to use the family changing rooms are asked to use the regular locker rooms. The Y is not responsible for stolen, lost or damaged personal property. Ensure your lockers are secured and leave your valuables at home.
Children age 5 and under must be accompanied in the water by an adult wearing appropriate swimming attire at all times. Children ages 6–10 must have a parent present on the pool deck for the duration of their time in the pool. Children ages 11 and older may be in the pool without a parent present. However, they are subject to a swim test and must adhere to posted rules and any rules set forth by the lifeguard. Use of the deep end may be dependent on the completion of a standardized swim test and will be at the discretion of the lifeguard.
Nationwide Membership enables you to visit any participating Y in the United States through membership at your “home” YMCA (your home location is the facility that enrolled you as a member and that collects your membership dues).

BIRTHDAY PARTIES/ROOM RENTALS
Planning a birthday party, family reunion, prom or other event? Contact your Y branch or YMCA Camp Y-Noah for availability and details.
Membership cancellation requests may be made by completing a cancellation form. Cancellation forms are available at the front desk, or you may use the link below to print and fill out this form. Exceptions to this policy may be made, if necessary, by speaking directly with the Membership Director at your home branch. Cancellation forms must be completed by a minimum of at least 24 hours prior to the members next scheduled draft. If your membership dues are paid by payroll deduction with your employer, your notice to cancel may be as long as 15 days. Failure to do so will make subsequent drafts non-refundable. Members are responsible for reviewing bank statements to verify their draft cancellation.
CARRY YOUR CARD
Membership cards must be scanned at the front desk upon entering the Y. A valid photo ID is required if you do not have your membership card available. Replacement cards are available for $5. Membership cards are not transferable.

DAY USE LOCKER POLICY
Remember to take your belongings with you when you leave. Locks left on lockers overnight on a day use locker may be destroyed and any personal items in the locker will be placed in lost and found.
FAMILY MEMBERSHIP POLICY
Our Family membership category is defined as two adults and any dependent children living in the same household. Dependent children are under 18 years of age, college students ages 18–25 or dependents ages 18–25 (proof of dependency is required).
Documentation will be requested at time of registration.
The Y strives to make programs and membership available to all. Financial assistance may be available to those who qualify. Funds come from generous donations to our Annual Campaign. Please contact your branch Membership Director or stop by your branch member service desk for confidential enrollment in our Financial Assistance Program. Learn more about Financial Assistance.
Members are welcome to bring a maximum of two guests with them to enjoy the facility. Guest fees are $5 for youth, $10 for adults and $15 for a family. Guests must remain with the member at all times. Guests may visit the facility up to 6 times
in a calendar year. Guests 16 years and older are required to provide a photo ID.
GUESTS who are 10 years and under, must be accompanied by an adult.
HEALTH PLAN OPTIONS
The PRIME Fitness program is offered in partnership with corporations at no additional cost to their employees. Participants must be between 18–64 years old for eligibility.
The PRIME Fitness program gives full membership benefits at all Akron Area YMCA branches. Stop by the Member Service Desk for more details.
The SilverSneakers® Fitness program is offered in partnership with select health plans at no additional cost to eligible members. Eligible participants are entitled to a basic membership to the Akron Area YMCA. This membership includes participation in SilverSneakers classes, other classes offered by the Y, guidance from qualified instructors, social activities and use of the Y facilities, such as swimming pools and saunas. Check with your insurance company for eligibility requirements. Ask at your Y Member Service Desk for qualifying health plans and details.
MONTHLY AND ANNUAL PAYMENT PLANS
Annual pay: When you join as an annual pay member, you will pay 12 months plus a partial thirteenth month depending on the day of the month you join. Annual pay memberships are non-refundable.
Monthly payment draft: You will authorize your bank or credit card to automatically pay your monthly membership dues. Automatic drafts do not stop after one year — you must cancel in writing 24 hours prior to your monthly draft date and turn in your membership cards.
Members may put their membership on-hold for a maximum of 6 months. The first 3 months will be at no charge. Months 4, 5, and 6 will be assessed a fee of $8 per month, to be paid up front. While on-hold the member will not be charged their monthly membership dues. The membership will be inactive during this time and the member will forgo access to all facilities. If a member wishes to sign up for a program while on-hold they will be charged the program member rate. Once the hold is released, the membership will automatically begin drafting again.

Photography is strictly prohibited in all locker rooms and changing areas. All parents must sign a photo release form for their children to use these premises. A copy of this release form is available at the front desk. Photography for personal promotion or related use is strictly prohibited.
RETURN PAYMENT POLICY
In order to keep our branches financially sound and in fairness to those who pay their fees on time, we will assess a $5 fee for all returned drafts, checks and credit cards.
The start-up fee is a one-time fee for new members to begin their membership accounts as they start to enjoy all benefits the Y has to offer. The fee covers the administrative cost of your membership. Those costs include, but are not limited to, your membership card(s), processing fee and account maintenance. Members who cancel their membership and later rejoin are required to pay the start-up fee to reactivate their account.
ERRORS AND ADJUSTMENTS
While we try to be accurate in presenting information on this website, some unavoidable errors or changes to the programs, fees, schedule and other information may occur. The Y apologizes for any inconvenience that may result from these necessary adjustments.
